A typical percussion sectional. |
During our sectionals each section of the band has a different way of going about it. The fltues and clarinets for example
actually try and get work done. The irony? They aren't even heard on the field. A trumpet sectional is ran to prove to all
other sections that they are the loudest and most obnioxous (but unfortunatley they really get nothing done). The tenor saxes?
Well They work really hard for 20 or so minutes then quit working for 40 minutes or until the section is over with. The baritones/tubas/bari
saxes/trombones haven't had a productive sectional yet. The most gullable section would be the alto saxes and the mellophones
who normally work together during most sectionals. Those in the low brass section who aren't even doing anything in the first
place go and excuse some of the altos and mellophones. The variety of methods used during sectionals gives each group of instruments
(and those who play them) their unique character. Now the percussionists, hmmmm...............

All alto saxophones should do this, joking!!!!!! |
Band camp is also about hours of rehersing and working on the drills that go with the
music. The band gathers at 8:00 in the morning and doesn't leave until 5:00 in the afternoon. With long days and hard practices,
the band somehow finds time for fun. For example we have ample amount of band parties where we do random activitites and eat....
a lot. Some have even lasted until the next day. But if we're really good, the conductor or the drum majors will give us a
break, not.
Lunch is another chance to socialize during band camp. This is the time where everyone
comes to one persons house for food and video games. Of course I am exaggerating a little bit but it does happen.
Otherwise the band will either bring their lunch or go out to eat then come over to a band geek's house. Some of the band
members are really daring and try to go on a slurpee run. The down fall to that is the nearest 7-11 is quite a ways away.
But it has been done! When lunch is over the afternoon seems longer than the morning and that's when the band continues the
drills, ugh.......... But by the end of band camp we know that the real fun begins, c'mere sophomores.....hehehehe.
